Patrik Anderson is\u00a0chairman\u00a0of ITS Sweden,\u00a0an association for actors working with transport related to the digitalization. We had a chat with him about the\u00a0current challenges with digitalization\u00a0and what\u00a0differentiate Sweden from other European countries working with digitalization within the transportation sector.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Tell<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>us a bit more about ITS Sweden\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>ITS Sweden is a nonprofit organization that represents business,\u00a0academia\u00a0and public actors, both nationally and internationally. ITS Sweden is a forum for networking, information, and knowledge exchange within digitalization of the transport system. By this We provide\u00a0a platform for collaboration and therefore enabling effective exchange of experience and knowledge building among actors in society, academia and\u00a0business<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>What would you say\u00a0are the international transportation trends?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Transportation is a huge\u00a0industry segment\u00a0in many\u00a0dimensions, like\u00a0transport modes, geographical coverage &amp; responsibilities, goods vs people, legislations, market actors etc.\u00a0So,\u00a0to give a short answer on trends for\u00a0all\u00a0the above will be difficult. \u00a0There are some common overarching themes though in the keywords of \u201csafer, greener and smarter\u201d\u00a0as towards the industry is striving.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>What are the current challenges with digitalization?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In general, some technology concepts within digitalization are new and frontiers are being explored and limitations definedpresently.\u00a0Other\u00a0digitalization concepts have existed in other industries but\u00a0are new to the transport sector, and there is\u00a0atransportation\u00a0competence gap.\u00a0These two things\u00a0result\u00a0in\u00a0that the industry is undergoing a change, exploring the best ways to apply\u00a0new\u00a0digitalization concepts.\u00a0Some digitalization challenges worth mentioning would be balancing ambition levels and technologies related to automation\u00a0&amp; autonomy,\u00a0cybersecurity, personal integrity, personalization and\u00a0servitization\u00a0of the transport. Questions on how to structure data and ownership of data between corporations and the public is another dimension of digitalization challenges.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>What differentiates Sweden from other European countries working with digitalization within the transportation sector?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We have in general a very high maturity level of applied digitalization. Furthermore, Sweden is well recognized for a\u00a0\u201cbest-in-class\u201d\u00a0approach on a system-level; this applied digitalization that I just mentioned to support transportation\u00a0operations\u00a0in the best ways possible.\u00a0<br \/>Further,\u00a0Sweden is internationally known for\u00a0our\u00a0IT-,\u00a0transportation\u00a0companies and\u00a0innovative\u00a0start-ups. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>What would increase collaboration between actors in society,\u00a0academia\u00a0and business?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Establishing a collaboration and understanding of each other\u2019s perspective\u00a0and challenges\u00a0is a good foundation. Then the industry\u00a0needs to formulate some common vision\u00a0and ambition levels\u00a0in more\u00a0areas\u00a0moving forward.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Looking a few years ahead, how do you think the transportation industry will evolve?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>On a macro level transportation is fueled by the drivers of accelerated urbanization generating increased mobility needs which results in challenges around better saving our planet through more sustainable transport. To address this, higher automation,\u00a0digitalization,\u00a0and new ways of fossil free transports will evolve and sometime revolutionize transport. All of this cannot happen without security and safety in mind. \u00a0Therefore,\u00a0ITS Sweden is focusing on smarter,\u00a0safer,\u00a0and more sustainable mobility.
