She holds a PhD in Computer Science from M\u00e4lardalen University, Sweden, where her work focused on Intelligence-Driven Software Performance Assurance. Mahshid\u2019s research interests lie in performance anomaly detection, cybersecurity in the automotive industry, and ML-driven software testing. At VECS 2025 she will present INTERSTICE \u2013 Intelligent Security\u00a0Solutions for Connected Vehicles\u00a0and her insights from that project. We had a chat with Mahshid prior to the event in Gothenburg. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p>Could you please introduce yourself and your work at Scania?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m\u00a0Mahshid Helali Moghadam, a\u00a0data scientist and researcher at Scania. I hold a\u00a0Ph.D. in computer science, and my expertise lies in the intersection of\u00a0machine learning, cybersecurity, and software quality assurance. At Scania, my focus is on\u00a0intelligence-driven security solutions for connected vehicles. I lead the\u00a0INTERSTICE research project, which explores\u00a0machine learning-driven intrusion detection for in-vehicle networks\u00a0to enhance automotive cybersecurity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What will you speak about at VECS 2025?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At\u00a0VECS 2025, I will be presenting\u00a0INTERSTICE \u2013 Intelligent Security\u00a0Solutions for Connected Vehicles\u00a0in\u00a0Track E: Cybersecurity and Connectivity. I\u2019ll discuss the potential of intelligence-driven intrusion detection for detecting\u00a0evolving cyber threats and outline the challenges we face in moving towards intelligent cyber threat detection. I\u2019ll share Scania\u2019s research experience, in collaboration with project partners, in addressing these challenges and\u00a0provide\u00a0a view of\u00a0our research contributions within INTERSTICE.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How can we best use AI when dealing with cybersecurity threats?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A pragmatic use of ML-driven techniques for enabling adaptive cyber security requires\u00a0addressing some key challenges. Some of the\u00a0challenges, to name a few,\u00a0include\u00a0the scarcity of real-world, attack-representative data\u00a0needed for training, testing, and evaluating ML-based security measures;\u00a0the constraints of ECU-based deployment\u00a0of ML applications; and the\u00a0requirements\u00a0outlined in the\u00a0EU AI Act impacting\u00a0onboard\u00a0intrusion detection systems.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the most important takeaway from your presentation?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My presentation will highlight\u00a0the potential of intelligent security solutions in enabling adaptive cybersecurity for connected vehicles. I will discuss\u00a0the challenges we need to overcome\u00a0and provide\u00a0a summary of Scania\u2019s research contributions\u00a0within\u00a0the INTERSTICE project.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are you most looking forward to by attending and speaking at the event?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am excited to\u00a0share insights into adaptive automotive cybersecurity\u00a0and discuss how\u00a0intelligent threat detection solutions\u00a0can safeguard\u00a0connected vehicles while highlighting their potential and impact.
